The File Options tab contains general options that pertain to saving and sharing files:
1. File Sharing
Contains options for setting permissions for files that are opened in the File-to-SEC module.
a. Share Mode
The drop-down list sets the sharing permissions for the program. The options are as follows:
i. No Sharing (exclusive lock read/write)
Ensures that no files can be opened by any other program when that file is currently open in the File-to-SEC module. This option prevents users from attempting to open the same file at the same time.
ii. Share Read (lock write)
Allows other programs and users to open a read-only copy of files currently open in the File-to-SEC module.
b. Use File Share Lock Cookie Files
Create a cookie file to inform you when a file is opened. When cookies are being used, other users will be informed of the username that has a file opened and locked for editing.
2. Edit File Backup
Options for setting a file backup that will automatically keep older versions of files as they are changed. The options here determine if the ‘Saved Versions’ function will be available.
3. Backup Mode
Drop down list sets whether a backup will automatically be kept. The options are as follows:
a. Backup With Journal (nnn.bak)
Keep multiple backup versions of a file. A new backup file (called a .bak file) will be created each time a file is saved. Additional options will become available when this mode is chosen.
b. Single Backup File
Keep one backup version of a file. This backup file (called a .bak file) will be overwritten with the backup data each time a file is saved. Additional options will become available when this mode is chosen.
c. No Backup
Don’t keep the original version of a file as a backup file.
4. Journal Limit
If the Backup With Journal option is chosen, this field will become available. This field contains the maximum number of backup files to create for each file. A new backup file will be created each time a file is saved. When the limit number is reached, the oldest backup will be rolled-off by newer versions of the file. Choose the desired file limit from the drop down list.
5. Make Backup Files Hidden
This option will be available when the Backup Mode is Backup With Journal or Single Backup File. This option will set the .bak files as hidden files when browsing the directory that contains the files. The files will be hidden from you, but the Saved Versions function can still be used to access older versions of a file.
6. Other Options
Contains other options for saving files.
a. Use Sticky Paths for File Save
Set the default save location for the Save As function to be the last used location. Unchecking this option will set this default save location to be the location of the file being saved as a new file or to the last save location if the current file is untitled.
b. Warn of Non-EDGAR Filenames
Display a warning when a file is saved using a non-EDGAR compliant filename.
